  Background
Abstract With the rapid developments of embedded systems technology, the use of Component-Based Software Development (CBSD) in embedded systems is on the rise. Embedded systems are usually energy constrained, so it has become a great challenging issue to analyze the system energy-consumption at early phase of component-based embedded software development, which can help to improve the efficiency and reduce the costs. This paper consequently contributes to this problem. According to the component-based embedded software architecture, the authors analyze the energy-consumption of embedded system using path-based method in architecture design phase. In our evaluation model, the formal specification of software architecture is given based on CSP and the energy-consumption description is established on the interface-level. Finally, the authors establish a path-based energy-consumption evaluation model through CSP traces model. A case study is presented to validate the correctness and the effectiveness of our method in the end of this paper. Keywords component; interface; architecture; energy consumption; trace model
