  Background
Abstract To solve the rigidity of network architecture accompanied with traditional information network which is traffic-oriented and can¡¯t adapt to the requirements of next generation network, service-providing oriented network architecture is introduced. Furthermore, the architecture model¡ªuniversal carrying network(UCN), is designed based on reconfigurable routing & switching platform to provide universal carrying services. Logical carrying network is the core of UCN design. In the end, the logical carrying network constructing algorithm, called resource balancing constructing algorithm is given and the results of algorithm simulation are analyzed.

Background This research is supported by the National High-Technology Research and Development Program (863 Program) project ¡°New Generation High Trustworthy Network¡± (No.2008AA01A323).
Research issues of this paper focus on construction methods of universal carrying network, which are parts of next generation network designing. This kind of issues as well as virtual network design is paid attention by international network service researchers. This paper aims to provide clustering service by designing new carrying network techniques to fulfill the development of future network traffic.
Based on service providing-oriented and reconfigurable routing and switching platform, this project works on universal carrying mode, which is integrated carrying for all kinds of current network traffic. In addition, based on reconfigurable service ability, the universal carrying network architecture can supports most kinds of future network traffic. An important object of the project is to research into new service providing-oriented network architecture as well as construction technology, which can provide extended service ability for next generation network traffic. Furthermore, this architecture can break away from rigidity of traditional traffic-oriented network. Achievements of this paper aim to solve the extended service ability providing.
The research group which author participates in has received some production in this eara: National high-powered broadband information network (3TNet), ipv6 core router, large-scale access & converge router and key technique research, etc.
