  Background
Abstract A novel trust model for P2P networks, namely RETM, a Recommendation Evidence based Trust Model, is presented in this paper. It solves some problems, for instance, not invalidly aggregating incompatible recommendation information and dealing with uncertainty of information in the reputation-based P2P trust model. Before combining the evidences, RETM will filter out noisy recommendation information, and moreover the method makes RETM more robust. In addition a feedback-based probabilistic searching algorithm is proposed to find the recommendation information, which improves the searching success rate and lowers the network traffic. Theoretical analyses and experimental results show that, compared to the current some trust models, the proposed model RETM has advantages in modeling dynamic trust relationship and aggregating recommendation information, moreover, is more robust on trust security problems and more advanced in successful transaction rate.

background Broadband Network Research Center(BNRC) is one of the five research centers of the state key laboratory of networking and switching technology, whose former name is the national laboratory of switching technology and telecommunication networks. BNRC mainly focused on network performance evaluation, quality of service£¬network survivability and Next Generation Network (NGN) and so on.

The authors have studied on network performance and service management since 2002. They focus on performance evaluation and improvement in Next Generation Internet, Peer-to-Peer (P2P) networks and wireless sensor networks. They have dozens of papers published in high level academic journals and international conference, including IEEE ICC, IEEE GLOBECOM, JCST, Chinese Journal of Computers, Journal of Software, Chinese Journal of Electronics etc..
P2P networks have already influenced and changed the style of our works and lives. Building trust relationship between peers in a large-scale distributed P2P system is a fundamental and challenging research topic. A novel trust model RETM based on recommendation is presented in this paper to solve some problems, for instance, noisy information filtering, referrals discovery and aggregation etc.. Experimental results show that RETM has advantages in modeling dynamic trust relationship and aggregating recommendation information, moreover, is more robust on trust security problems and more advanced in successful transaction rate.
